The goal of PREP is to assist parents in the religious education of children attending public schools in Preschool, Grades 1 to 7, and High School and to prepare them to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist in Grade 2 and Confirmation in Grade 7.
The PREP at Our Lady of Good Counsel runs from September to May from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Classes are on Tuesdays for students in Grades 1 thru 6 and Thursdays for students in Grades 1 thru 7 and High School.
Volunteer catechists are supporting the parents in leading the children understand our Catholic faith, grow in their love for God, joyfully journey with Christ, and prepare them to celebrate the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.
The celebration and reception of the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation require a two- year preparation.
Practicing the Corporal Works of Mercy is part of the Confirmation Program. Our candidates reach out to the community by:
- Feeding the hungry at the Surrey Urban Mission (SUM) Shelter Preparing Food: Friday afternoons at the DBYC kitchen from 3:30 to 6:00 pm Serving breakfast at the SUM: Saturday mornings from 8:00 to 10:30 am
- Visiting the sick and imprisoned at the Nursing Home "Para-Liturgy" on Sunday Mornings: Students practice songs and Sunday readings after PREP class on Thursdays, 8:00 to 8:30 pm and join the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist on Sundays to bring Jesus at the Nursing Home.
- Give alms to the poor: The students support the Holy Childhood Association. "Children helping Children"
